| This story would benefit a lot from a little editing, especially in the dialogues, which are so excessive and repetitive that they become frankly irritating at times. I almost gave up reading altogether in the first scene. It's as if all the characters are dense and need everything explained to them over and over until they finally catch on. Either that, or the author underestimates his reader's intelligence. Perhaps he should leave some things for the readers to figure out, it adds to the fun in reading a story. As it is, the story flows very slowly and is a bit cumbersome to read. This is almost like the old Deane Christopher stories, from the 'surrealistic wordsmith' period. But while that author still retains some of his peculiarities, it is evident from his recent work that he has done a lot to lighten his style and render his stories a bit more readable. Maybe Mr.Hart should try doing the same. |

| This is a nice story, developed carefully, with equal interaction of the two characters without domination. As an editor in the real world, I'd like to point out two misspellings, which if corrected, would give the story more reality (1) the inherited anemia is "sickle cell anemia" not psychle (a proportion of the person's red blood cells assume a sickle shape instead of being a biconcave sphere) and (2) the syndrome is a capitalized "Down's syndrome", also sometimes called "Down syndrome" or "Trisomy 21", the latter indicating the exact genetic variation that it is. Keep up with the writing! |
