| While a saucy and sly satire, I wonder if what Pretzelgirl has written speaks to a larger aspect of this genre--specifically, has it now become established enough in the time Fictionmania and Nifty and Sapphire's and Robo's sites have been around that this topic has moved beyond the "secret, hidden room" aspect, towards a cautious dabbling of the toe into a bit more (dare I say) "mainstream" aspect of genre writing? When we start seeing clever satires such as that presented here, it seems that the level of "play" (writing) has begun to move up a bit; for when the readers and authors are willing to have some fun with their "bread and butter", in a manner of speaking, it seems that a new level has been reached in the writing effort. As someone else has mentioned, while what is often written about in this genre tends to follow the cliches cleverly illustrated in this story, the commentator points out there are many other areas that have yet to be touched upon in this topic of gender change. I certainly think that over the past year, there has been a gradual shift forward in the caliber of writing and plot development in the stories presented here than was seen in some of the early stories that were presented (obviously, this is arguable, and reflects my biases, but I do think the quality is improving). I suspect we will begin to see new areas in plot development and storytelling begin to emerge in the coming year. But, enough of the stuffy "Masterpiece Theater" style of boring claptrap. Pretzelgirl, this was a clever way of providing a "Cliff's Notes" guide to gender change fiction writers, while hopefully stimulating them to perhaps plot and think more critically when composing their stories. Thanks for sharing. |

Nice, succinct, and humorous story. Perhaps the only SRU story ever written without the appearance of the Wizard. Chilli is one of a very short list of authors whose work I crave. It's so wonderful to get a "fix", no matter how brief! (and who couldn't love a story with such a wonderful dedication! |

The irony is that this author -and I understand he is busy like all of us- stated when he decided to go ahead with this project that he would not go the route of some others who abandoned their own stories. sad to say for whatever reason this one is probably done. And its a shame because it is great stuff. When it starts to lag for months you know there's trouble ahead. |
