Ellie's stories are always good. At first I thought that this one was going to be an average twisted Djinn story. I should have known better. The third wish turned it around. I thought that the three wishers should have retained their original memories as well as the new ones, otherwise they are not the people who made the original wishes anymore and cannot appreciate the consequences of their wishes. VERY well written. One of the best written stories I've read on fictionmania. A sequel isn't necessary, the aftermath will never be as interesting as the event. Interesting ending. Good to see that Robin realizes that she has killed Kevin. Kayla is someone else in the same body. Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. The reviewer who suggested doing stories about others who share the shape-changing ability makes sense. You can't have Kevin/Kayla continue using the ability to change sex without blunting the impact of this story. But you can explore other aspects of the shape-changing with other characters.

I... think (heh) that I stand in a bit of an intermediate ground between the previous two reviews here. First, I have to say - I found this work to be a little bit rough but the idea behind it is so profound to me, as someone who intellectually "understood" what a trans person might feel. The story gave me a completely different - and more personal - angle from which to try to see... So, firstly: Thank you for the insight. I'll expand a little on what I mean, though. I think there are many aspects of the story that could be better by various measures, sure: there are little bits of slightly awkward phrasing, and maybe the construction of the overarching idea doesn't quite sit well with people, etc... but I personally think the core of the story here is what really matters, and I certainly couldn't come up with something nearly this solid and meaningful in, dunno, a half year. It was quite clever, and more importantly, *helpful*, to take this strange, fantastic/magical perspective; while it's hard for me to really understand the whole "I don't like looking in the mirror because I feel wrong" idea that often gets repeated, it was a lot easier to take what I personally would consider an exciting fantasy and look at it from the perspective of someone who is perhaps horrified at such a situation. I can easily understand looking in the mirror and seeing something that is just fundamentally incorrect, then looking down at myself and seeing what is right. I can see how this could be completely terrifying... but DorothyColleen's story takes different direction because a story filled with constant panic would not show the same situations that did come up, and would therefore not illustrate the same nuances therein. I personally do not come to this site to read this kind of story. When I saw the description, I was drawn in; but the little voice in the back of my mind was right: "Don't expect a story from DorothyColleen to be what you initially thought it was, silly". It was more than worth my time, as usual. Thank you, DororthyColleen!
