| Hmm. Definitely a different sort of story, and well done. The occasional typos were rather distracting, though, including a use of the wrong pronoun at one point. In a TG story, using 'he' where you mean 'she' gets noticed. ;-) I always feel like people whose minds are altered are diminished thereby - although I suppose it's a little less horrible as a swap, my main objection is that no outside force can ever tweak such a complex thing without making it a bit simpler in the process. Overall, this was thought-provoking but, as stated, not really focused on TG issues. |

| I REALLLLY enjoyed this story. I loved the period stuff about the heyday of Hollywood, and the inclusion of the old time stars and celebrities. I especially loved the care that the author took to ensure that the characters and the plot were plausible. And speaking of plausibility, Paul's transformation and the things in his background that accounted for his femininity were very well done, too. But because important parts of the story are so good, it made the myriad of tiny *mechanical* problems all that much more annoying. A close read by a good copy editor would do wonders for "Another Fine Miss." Call it nit-picking, but: 1) Paul's name changes briefly to "Peter." 2) The Tarzan guy starts off as Murphy and morphs to Morgan. 3) The time line is kinda ragged. From the information in the story, Paul should be 15, but we are excplicitly told that he's 16, but maybe 17 or 18. 4) Finally, the whole thing needs to be run through a good spell checker. There aren't a *whole* lot of errors, but the ones that I noticed really stopped me in my tracks and pulled me out of the story (limousine, for example, is repeated rendered as a linguistic cousin of "kerosene"). But to reiterate, all of the problems are *verrry* minor and my overall response is to clap my hands off and, with everyone else, to start watching for the next installement. ......Tamara Rand. |
