Here is a perfect example: "It's a big plum in my hat and will probably mean a promotion for me." It could be 'a plum of a deal' or a 'feather in her cap', (not 'hat'), but not a '... plum in her hat ...' That is as silly as saying something like, "You buttered your bread, now you have to lie in it!", or, "Put that in your hat and smoke it!" Sounds pretty silly, when it's pointed out, doesn't it. As I said in my first critique, I like the story, but these absurdities jangle my brain so much that I completely lose the thread of the story. This is the second time it's happened in about twenty paragraphs. Do you not see that there is a major problem here, if you wish to be taken at all seriously?
