| I know you tried to explain why The Wizard acted the way he did, but you need to hear why I didn't think this was an appropriate SRU story. The Wizard may be a jester at times and has been known to punish people, but he has a certain charm that keeps him likeable. His thoughts tried to explain why he disliked his employee but presented him as a bitter crank. SRU would never become this popular if the character was so detestable. This was a good case of a story that could have been stronger if you spent more time developing the idea. A couple sentences introduce the character as incompetent but the reader never gets a chance to become familiar with the victim. Should the reader feel sorry for the victim? Is he a dangerous incompetent or the target of a bitter old man's anger? I felt sorry for him and disagreed with his boss. Was this the response that you planned? The reader should become more familiar with the employer and employee considering that the heart of the story is a very controversial decision by the boss. A longer story might have served you better. |
