| Very nice story, especially since it doesn't have sex or the mother being mean, but more description of the actual dressing up would be good. Like when they were in Karen's room, trying on dresses, you should have taken us there! Not downstairs to where everybody else is talking. |

| Ok, you've got a good and fun plot here.... But you need to an editor or something badly. The very first paragraph usually sets the pace for the whole story, and in the very first sentence you had a tense error. You tried to stay in present tense throughout the story but occasionally bounced back and forth to past tense. As a new writer, please avoid present tense until you've acquired a bit more skill. Storytelling in present tense is extremely difficult, though I don't want to discourage anyone from giving it a go, I certainly think that one should get the basics down first before trying it. Then in your second paragraph, your sentences became overly simplified and your speech patterns robotic. It was only a step up from "See Spot. See Spot run." Re-read it, and as you do think about how you normally speak in everyday life. Then you began to narrate what should have been dialogue. Latter in the 3rd paragraph when you finally tried to use dialogue, you didn't start a new paragraph at all. "Know what I mean?" I said, arms folded and taping my index finger while scowling over my glasses. "B-bu.." Anonymous started to nervously protests. "No buts!" Scowling even deeper I stood glaring with my hands on my hips. LoL just an example, you should know what I mean now. To be honest I really couldn't bring myself to read beyond the 3rd paragraph because I had pulled out the proverbial red marker. Now that I've gotten that off my chest I think I might be able to finish the story now! Your plot really does seem interesting, a great story idea, just need a bit more experience in your writing skills. Every new story is a lesson learned, so i hope you continue and grow as a writer. I've included my e-mail, so if you ever wish me to look something over, I'll be glad to. I still have much to learn as well, and i believe that helping others will improve my own skills as well. |
